Last week, I read a column written by Bob Hill, in our local newspaper, The Courier-Journal. He discussed how irritating it was to watch Babel while someone noisily chowed down behind him, and invited readers to send comments or solutions.
Since my Drama classes had just finished discussing audience etiquette, I thought it was a good chance to practice on-demand writing and assigned them to write a letter to Mr. Hill. After they did so, I typed them up -- whole letters in a few cases, and at least an excerpt from each from the rest. I emailed them to Mr. Hill, and to my pleasant surprise, he seemed interested in publishing some of their comments.
Which lead to this column, published in yesterday's Saturday Scene. (Read about halfway down.)
